Title VI/JOM Indian Education

The Indian Education Program provides supplemental educational and supportive services to eligible Title VI/JOM students residing in school districts in Wasco and Hood River Counties.

The purpose of the Title VI/JOM Indian Education Program is to:

  • meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of Native Americans so that these students can achieve the same challenging state standards as all students.

  • assist in connecting families of Native American students with culture, community and education.

  • address the culturally related academic needs of Native American students.

  • extend program services to all qualified Native American students.

  • improve cultural awareness and self esteem among students.

  • increase the number of Title VI/JOM Program students successfully completing high school and pursuing higher education.

Student Eligibility

  • The student must be enrolled in school in Wasco or Hood River County.

  • Either the student or a biological parent or grandparent must be or must have been enrolled or recognized by an Indian tribe, group or band.

  • The parent or guardian of the student needs to complete a Federal “506” Form indicating the student's heritage. Please print Form 506, complete and mail to: Columbia Gorge ESD Title VI Program, 400 East Scenic Drive Suite 207, The Dalles, OR 97058.
