Purpose & Mission

The Columbia Gorge Indian Education Program at Columbia Gorge ESD partners with school districts, tribes, and families to:

  • Support Native students in meeting the same state academic standards as all students, while honoring cultural identity

  • Foster knowledge and understanding of Native communities, languages, tribal histories, traditions, and cultures

  • Equip educators with culturally responsive practices to better support American Indian / Alaska Native students

This program operates under an educational plan approved by the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) and in accordance with the Johnson-O’Malley Modernization Act and Title VI of ESSA.

Indian Parent Committee
The Indian Parent Committee (IPC) plays a key role in shaping our program. All parents, guardians, and community members are invited to participate.

  • Meetings: 1st Wednesday of each month, 5:00 – 7:00 PM

  • Location: RISE Center, 1805 Minnesota St, The Dalles, OR 97058
