Robotics coaches

The Gorge Technology Alliance (GTA) and the Columbia Gorge STEM Hub share the mission of ensuring equitable access to quality STEM experiences for all students. The two organizations are collaborating to sponsor competitive robotics throughout the region, by providing much needed grant funds to Oregon and Washington competitive robotics teams.

Many of the Gorge robotics programs are coached by parents, community members or educators who gift their time to our youth, and typically cover the necessary costs related to team competitions. This school year, coaches are invited to apply for mini-grants to support team-related expenses. These expenses may include:registration fees, material costs or team travel. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis, as funds allow, and reviewed by the STEM Hub’s grant committee.  Grant funds were donated by GTA members and earmarked specifically for robotics programs.

The STEM Hub relies on partner organizations and local donors to enhance their impact and provide students with every possible opportunity to experience STEM learning. “The STEM Hub appreciates the Gorge Tech Alliance and every GTA member who supports robotics programs in our region. This funding support is a game-changer for our teams. Not only will these grants allow for more students to participate by removing barriers caused by financial burdens to volunteers, we believe it also demonstrates true appreciation to each coach and the time they dedicate to the students they graciously serve,” comments Julie Cucuel, STEM Hub Director.

“The GTA is thrilled to support Grants for Robotics Coaches, and all the STEM Hub’s vital work in promoting STEM education and engagement in the Mid-Columbia region,” said Jason Hartmann, project manager with GTA. “Through working with STEM Hub, we hope to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders and contribute to the continued growth of our region's technology sector.”

Additionally, the Gorge Technology Alliance and STEM Hub have partnered to develop a lending program, which provides free use of robotics equipment to educators, parents and community programs. These kits allow for students to explore the world of robotics, or to compete in local competitions.
